Artist's Comments

One of my painted "squiggles". I really do not want to say what this is, because I am not entirely sure myself. I was telling myself a story with every stroke though, so it may not be exactly what you think it is, or it may just be exactly what it seems to be.

Watercolor with some postercolor. Captured w/ an Olympus SP-510UZ instead of a scanner because I do not have that installed yet.

E.T.A.: Hrmm. Not sure why comments for this piece disappeared :(

Evocative of creation and redemption to me, but then, that's my perspective. I like the strength of the central image and the almost chaotic nature of the distant expanse, and the contrary arrangement of dark foreground and lght background, as though we, too, are viewing this from the darkness, with only reflected light to aid us.

a colour scheme very traditional in Australian art, actually ;) intriguing...

It is? Wow, I'm so unobservant! Although I was trying to fuse some folk-art elements into my usual impressionist/surreal squiggles I wasn't really consciously thinking about Australian Aboriginal art. So it's awfully cool about the color scheme. I'm considering this picture a "prototype" of sorts for the direction I'd like my art to eventually take. Away from the more "fantasy" or illustrative things I've done to a more undiscovered country. It's not "finished" or something I'm totally satisfied with but as a guide - it's a decent start.

That is a very interesting perspective, Sardaug. I was a little more cthonic and not so deliberate in my choices but art is also about the viewer's perspective as much as it is about the artist's subterranean daubings ;) - although, in the land of the surreal, things such as foreground and background tend to get interchanged a lot, especially when they're considered mere binaries that need to be disrupted by the hand that adds the lines and shades.

I think so too. :D It's very interesting (although, blah, 'interesting' is such a bland word :/ ) But I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you bring back from this new world :blackrose:
